How to Learn German in Pakistan: A Beginner’s Guide for 2027
Start German from zero with free resources, a simple daily routine and a plan for your first month in Pakistan.

2027 guide · Published on 11 October 2026. Resources were checked in October 2026. This guide does not give 2027 exam dates, fees or entry rules.
You can start German before January. Whether you study in Lahore, work in Karachi or learn at home elsewhere in Pakistan, begin with one small lesson. Choose a beginner resource and learn to introduce yourself. This guide helps you plan your first steps for 2027.

1. Choose one small goal
“Learn German” is a big goal. “Introduce myself and ask five questions” is easier to practise. Choose something useful, like meeting someone or writing a short message.
Write down your goal and when you can study. If you need German for an exam, work or university, check the exact rules with that organisation. A language level and an accepted certificate are different things.
2. Know the German levels
The CEFR is a system that describes six language levels, from A1 to C2. Start with A1 if you are new to German. These are simple summaries. Finishing an app does not prove you have reached a level.
| Level | What you are working towards |
|---|---|
| A1 | Introduce yourself and share basic details with help. |
| A2 | Talk about simple daily needs and familiar parts of your life. |
| B1 | Follow familiar topics and explain experiences or plans. |
| B2 | Understand harder texts and explain your views in more detail. |
3. Start with useful sentences
Start with greetings, names, numbers and everyday questions. Listen to the sounds of German, including ä, ö, ü and ß. Do not rely only on words written in Roman Urdu or English.
Learn nouns with der, die or das: write das Buch, not just Buch. Add the plural and a short example. Start with useful verbs such as ich bin (I am) and ich habe (I have).
Use Urdu or English to understand a rule if it helps. Then practise the German sentence. Translating each word on its own will not always give you the right word order.
| German | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Ich heiße Ali. | My name is Ali. |
| Ich komme aus Pakistan. | I come from Pakistan. |
| Ich lerne Deutsch. | I am learning German. |
| Können Sie das bitte wiederholen? | Could you please repeat that? |
4. Find free learning resources
DW’s Nicos Weg is a free video course from A1 to B1. Work through the lessons and exercises, rather than only watching the story.
Goethe-Institut’s Deutsch für dich has free grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening exercises from A1 to C2. Choose A1 to start. The old community and login features have closed, but the exercises are still available.
Goethe-Institut Pakistan also lists free practice by level and topic. Use it when you need extra help with one area.
Start with one main resource, a notebook and a voice recorder on your phone. If your internet is slow, review your notes offline. Use official downloads where they are offered.
This is the full A1 film. Start with just a few minutes. Pause, repeat one line and write down one phrase.

Try the routine below and change it to fit your day. It is a suggested plan, not a promise of results. On busy days, do a short review.
| Time | What to do |
|---|---|
| 5 minutes | Remember yesterday’s words and sentences before checking your notes. |
| 10 minutes | Complete a short lesson or a small part of one. |
| 5 minutes | Replay a short recording and repeat it aloud. |
| 5 minutes | Write three sentences using today’s material. |
| 5 minutes | Say the sentences without reading, then check and correct them. |
- Keep listening, reading, speaking and writing in your weekly routine.
- When possible, ask someone who speaks German well or learning partner for clear feedback.
- Keep a short correction list: the mistake, the correction and one new example.

6. Plan your first month
Use this as a starting plan. Repeat a week if you need more practice. These four weeks do not mean you have finished A1.
| Week | Focus | A small task to try |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Greetings, sounds and personal details | Record a short introduction with your name and where you are from. |
| 2 | Numbers, time and simple questions | Practise asking and answering a few questions about yourself. |
| 3 | Daily activities and useful verbs | Write five sentences about your day and read them aloud. |
| 4 | Review and combine what you know | Introduce yourself again, describe your routine and compare with your first recording. |
7. Avoid common mistakes
- Changing resources every few days. Give one structured beginner resource enough time before deciding what is missing.
- Collecting words without using them. Turn a few words into questions and sentences you can say.
- Waiting for perfect grammar before speaking. Start with a short sentence you know, then try a small change.
- Skipping listening practice. Read the text, listen again and connect the sounds to the words.
- Treating an app streak as proof of ability. Check what you can understand or say without help.
- Comparing your timetable with someone else’s. Available study time, past learning and feedback differ.
8. Check what you can do
Once a week, try a small task without notes. Can you introduce yourself, follow a short recording or write a simple message? Save your work so you can compare it later.
A level quiz may help you choose where to start. But it may not test every skill. Getting grammar questions right does not always mean speaking will feel easy.
People learn at different speeds. Focus on small tasks first. If you need an exam certificate later, check the exam provider’s current rules and format.
Your next step: try one short lesson
Open one A1 lesson and write three sentences about yourself. Say them aloud. Record them if you can, and note one thing to practise tomorrow.
That is enough for today. Learn a little, use it and come back to it.
